Ubisoft continues to review its old games. A while ago, it shut down the servers of many productions, including Assasin’s Creed. In the new statement from the company, it was stated that the support of the racing game The Crew will be cut.
The Crew servers will close on March 31
Ubisoft will stop selling digital versions of The Crew in its latest blog post. In addition, those who already own the game will not be able to enter multiplayer races as of March 31, 2024. With the closure of the servers, an era will end for the game.
UBisoft stated that this decision was necessary due to server infrastructure and license restrictions. The studio, which does not want to continue the licenses of the vehicles in the game and avoids investing in servers, will put the 10-year-old game on the dusty shelves.
The Crew was originally released in 2014 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC. It featured an open world that represented a scaled-down version of the United States. Players could explore the virtual country in their cars and participate in street races and other driving events.
It supported up to 8-player multiplayer, as well as a single player campaign. Players took on the role of a racer trying to infiltrate criminal groups in different cities. Crew also received two expansions after its launch, adding new vehicles, events and locations.
In 2018, a new remake called Crew 2 will be released, while the old game is set to become a thing of the past. Ubisoft confirmed that the first game will no longer be supported after March 31st. With this move, the company will be able to focus on productions like The Crew Motorfest.
